No, passport scan is NOT required,
you just need to provide us with your valid passport number and
a few other information for processing your visa. However, in
some cases, the Immigration Department spots an error in your
application, you will need to scan your passport for them to
verify everything you provided is correct to avoid any problems
at both departure and arrival airports.
